Why this happens
Carriers run 5G on different radio frequencies, and each has a trade-off between speed and coverage:
- Low-band 5G reaches far and works well indoors but is only a little faster than 4G. This often shows as plain 5G.
- Mid-band and millimeter-wave 5G are much faster but cover shorter distances. T-Mobile brands this as 5G UC.
